Developing an Acne Diet 101

Many people could benefit from an acne diet. Hasn’t everybody heard that chocolate will give you pimples? Almost all of us have. If you think about it its not so far-fetched that by watching your diet you could prevent acne.

However, an acne diet can be hard to create for a large number of people. This type of diet is highly personal since is is based on each individual’s response to foods. There are guidelines, but your progress will largely be trial and error. Monitor your skin closely. Write a journal. You might even want to take pictures using a digital camera once or twice a week. At the time your skin clears stick the diet plan you were following.

Here are some guidelines to get you started on an acne diet:

* Up your intake of protein - Some dermatologists even believe that protein intake is connected to having clear skin. They believe this because protein has an enzyme in it that limits oil production. Oily skin is very vulnerable to breakouts.

* 2. Avoid carbohydrates - You do not need to cut out carbs completely. However you should keep them around 40 percent of your diet. Carbohydrates contain compounds that stimulate oil production. For this reason common knowledge indicates that junk food causes acne. In reality, junk food is high in carbs.

* Consume green tea - If at all possible try to drink the real stuff. The best type of green tea is the kind that you brew. However, if you can’t stand the stuff, then natural green tea drinks will do. Androgen production will be limited when you drink green tea. Androgen is a hormone that will wreak havoc on your skin.

* 4. Limit your salt intake - Iodine is usually found in salt. Which is why table salt is sometimes called “iodized salt.” Of course for some people with acne, iodine can cause big breakouts.

While watching what you eat, you should also be very careful with what you put on your face. You should know what ingredients are in your beauty products if you have acne. Those who are prone to acne should look for oil free moisturizers. Products containing natural ingredients will least likely irritate your skin. If you wear makeup, then consider investing in mineral makeup. Dermatologists are under the belief that mineral makeup can fully help alleviate your acne problems while enhancing the results of your acne diet.
