Top 3 positions in Google capture 62% of clickthrough traffic
You’ve heard how important it is to get your site listed on page one of Google, but if you want to really be outstanding PAGE ONE IS NOT ENOUGH. You’ve got to get one of the TOP THREE POSITIONS. Let me share what the research shows.
Links to the 3 sources I checked while compiling this post are provided below. The exact numbers vary a little between the 3 studies but the message is clear: The top 3 positions in Google’s search engine results pages capture 62% of clickthrough traffic. Or more.
Position #1 gets 42% to 56% – depends on whose figures you use.
Position #2 gets 12% to 13% of all the clickthroughs for that search term.
Position #3 gets 8% to 10%.
That’s a total of 62% or more of all search traffic are clicking on the top 3 search results.
Position #4 gets 4% to 6%.
Position #5 gets 5%.
Position #6 gets 3% to 4%.

SearchLightDigital says: “The top ten taken as a whole will give nearly nine tenths! (Actual total figure – 89.69%). Drop onto page two, and you’re basically stuffed.”
