Page 1 Google Strategy: Backlinks from Authority Sites with High PageRank

Most Google watchers will tell you that the leading page 1 Google strategy is to get backlinks from authority sites that already have a high page rank in Google’s eyes.

Sure, there are actually TWO major factors involved in getting top listings with Google. But one of them is relatively easy so it acts more as an impediment if you get it wrong rather than as a cause of the page 1 listing you want.

That relatively easy element is what’s called on-page factors such as how you select and use keywords on your web pages, and other basics like heading tags (H1, H2, etc) and alt tags to describe the images you’re using. Remember that Google ranks your individual web pages (it’s called Page Rank, after all) rather than your site as a whole. On-page optimization is the art and science of creating optimized website pages.

Off-page factors are the second part of the SEO (search engine optimization) success story. And that’s where links come in. It’s MUCH  more of a challenge to get a game-changing number of links from web pages that already have a high PageRank score… which is why Google and the other search engines now rate the quality and quantity of backlinks so highly.

So how do you get links from so-called “authority sites”? Check this out:

“Rules” for backlinks

1. Quality is more important than quantity. A few links from authority sites will do you more good than hundreds from ordinary websites. That’s why Paul’s $8 Backlinks Packet, above, is such a good idea… and a good deal. But you do have to post the links yourself. If you dont want to do that, check out these Directory Submission Packages.

2. Links from bad neighbourhoods will damage your site. This includes sites Google has banned (they’re not in the Google search results, for example) and those that send out spam. If a site looks unprofessional to you, don’t ever swap links with it.

3. Reciprocal linking is generally understood now to be a waste of time. While opinions differ, most agree that it’s close to worthless for SEO purposes. Reciprocal links are where I link one of my pages to a page on your site and you link from that page back to the page on my site that has your link.

4. Non-reciprocal linking is better. That can be 1 way linking or 3 way linking (where siteA links to siteB, and siteB links to siteC, and siteC links to siteA). There are systems out there which do 3-way linking for you, typically charging in the area of $47 per month for that. However I have read that Google can now detect 3 way linking so one way linking is better. But how to get another site to link to you? That’s where there are 2 options — “do it yourself” using something like Paul’s Backlinking Packets (in the graphic above) or a “done for you” service such as the Directory Submission service vai the graphic below.

5. The text for your incoming links is important. You must use your keywords, but dont make all the links say the same thing. Vary the wording a bit, but stay within your pool of keywords and keyphrases.

6. Dont waste many links by calling them “Home” – or even “Click here” (unless you have other reasons for doing that). Better to say “Click here for (keywords)”. However, in order for your links to look natural to Google, set it up so that about 10% of your links do *not* use your keywords.
